Radio LOOS Residency - Light Cloud and a Moderate Disease
Mark Vernon and Leonie Roessler will spend four days to continue the work which they produced for Radio LOOS a year ago. During their residency in September of 2022, the radio artists worked with found sounds, tape loops, the grand piano, and musings on the theme of clarity to produce Light Cloud and a Moderate Disease, which Mark described as “A meditation on memory and clarity – attachments to objects, people and places, losing and finding things, letting go of things, the blurring of edges and the obfuscation of meaning.” While the piece in and of itself is finished, Mark and Leonie felt afterwards like there should be a part two to it. Also, coincidentally, it ended up having the perfect length for one side of a standard tape. The duo is planning to release this work through a label once Side B has been composed during their LOOS residency.
Mark has in the meantime laid the groundwork for part two by manipulating tapes and recording loops to which Leonie can add new piano parts. A hydrophone has appeared and will replace the role that the walkie talkie took in part one - the communicating of intimate thoughts without getting all too close to the speaker him/herself. The plan is to create a second piece which is autonomous in and of itself also, while being a continuation of Light Cloud and a Moderate Disease.
