LVVI surprise you with two guest from UK for a special summer surprise:
John Pope (UK) and
Faye MacCalman (UK)
from jazz trio Archipelago!
Frequent collaborators on the creative music scene in the North of England, Faye MacCalman (saxophone) and John Pope (Bass) draw on a deep shared history in their acoustic duo. This stripped-down format is a perfect match for their conversational music, exploring straight-ahead jazz and subtle balladry, space and texture, light and shade, structure and untethered improvisation.
Two-thirds of award-winning UK trio Archipelago, Faye and John have been playing together since 2014. As well as leading and composing for Archipelago, Faye has also worked and performed with Arun Ghosh, Zoe Rahman, The Unthanks, Olie Brice, Wilbert de Joode and Charlie Collins, amongst many others, as well as studying in New York and Montreal and leading workshops around the UK.
John Pope is an in-demand bass player, composer and improviser. As well as Archipelago he leads his own quintet and plays regularly in many projects, including CARTOON with improvisers Chris Biscoe and Roger Turner. He has also played and collaborated with Joe McPhee, Mick Beck, Field Music, Greg Spero, Rhodri Davies and a host of other improvisers.
