New Research Projects At Studio LOOS

We are happy to announce two new research projects at Studio LOOS by Elizaveta Kuzyakova and Kristin Norderval.

Aesthetics of 'sound ruins' by Elizaveta Kuzyakova

Ruins and destruction are big themes in contemporary art. How can architectural ruins become metaphors for sonic material? Processing instruments in the musical vocabulary brought special sounding-technological artifacts that showed themselves in a new aesthetic in electronic music. Particularly in electro-acoustic music, this aesthetic often works based on the deconstruction of material and its traces, leading to a tension between distortion and essence.

Elizaveta Kuzyakova is an experimental musician and composer from Moscow, currently based in The Netherlands. Continuing her studies in the Institute of Sonology in The Hague, she is active in the field of electro-acoustic composition and live performance. Her solo project Sáof evolves around drone /noise/ experimental electronics.

Bodies of Sound by Kristin Nordelval

How to create a sound design and electroacoustic ensemble practice that facilitates and encourages listening to the embodied and unembodied sonic events in space, plus the different sound processing used?

Exploring the interactions in improvising electro-acoustic trio -an unamplified opera singer and two monophonic unamplified instrumentalists, each with different audio technology, in relation to the possibilities vd acoustic space of Studio LOOS.

As both a composer and singer, Kristin Norderval is inspired by hybridity, interactivity and the idea that everything we do is site-specific. She blends acoustic and electronic sound, is fascinated with de-tuned instruments, machines, and ambient sound. In her solo works for voice and electronics she processes her voice in real time often combining it with prerecorded sounds to create complex sonic layers and unusual soundscapes.
