Radio LOOS VI

Radio LOOS presents two pieces of Jeremy Young which deal with the control of the police state, in particular the USA: The light and Shadow of Control and Elegy in C Minor for the Victims of Police Brutality.

"The Light & Shadow of Control" is an ongoing research and practice-based work based on improvised and intercepted communications audio. The piece is a reactive sonic landscape built from collages of excerpted police scans, and synthesized tones run through reel-to-reel tape which begin in legato but eventually make use of cuts and staccato permutations to play off the morse code and tapping-in beeps common in radio communication systems. It is its own language, and this piece seeks to undermine that communication from an "auditory voyeur's" perspective. For this piece, I have begun covertly intercepting and collecting hours of police frequency scanning, ship-to-shore communications and VHF and shortwave signal chatter and collaging these recordings into a musical narrative structured by tonal movements.

Elegy in C Minor for the Victims of Police Brutality, was created spontaneously after the murder of George Floyd.
Activist Meira Asher and radio maker Em Schwarzwald joined the conversation from Israel and Vienna.
