Aloardi’s acts

Founded in Peru in 1998, Aloardi started as one of the first labels and independent platforms in South and Central America diffusing and producing experimental music, media art, sound related interventions and alternative acoustic research. We support and generate collaborations between people with self-managed associations and institutions on local, national and international level. We organize events and transdisciplinary exhibitions, initiate actions and share knowledge: the association is engaged in approaches towards (non)technological resources, sustainable work and exchange with local communities. Based in Lima, our space serves since 2004 as venue for meetings, workshops, research laboratories, a residency program, audiovisual productions, internet radio broadcasts and a mediatheque.
This specific concert is part of the Aloardi Exchange Program 2016 in The Netherlands, a three-months project curated by Janneke van der Putten and in collaboration between among others WORM (Rotterdam), Mirta Demare Art (Rotterdam), Charlois Speciaal festival (Rotterdam), SOTU festival (Amsterdam), Gerrit Rietveld Academie (Amsterdam), Kulter (Amsterdam), and University San Martin (Lima, Peru).
Frau Diamanda
Hector Acuña (a.k.a. Frau Diamanda) is a Transgender Visual Artist, Drag Performer, Curator, Cultural Agent, Translator, Writer, Dj, Visagist and eventual Actor/Actress from Lima – Peru. He has created the drag character Frau Diamanda in 1999, since then he has presented and generated lots of projects linked to transgenderness as political stance and the development of emerging electronic and multimedia arts in Peru; she has also supported multidisciplinary events and daring experimental proposals in the Peruvian art field – from experimental electronic music festivals, lectures and projections of transgender video art, drag workshops to post porn festivals – always determined to look for a direct confrontation to patriarchal obstacles predominant in the art systems, the mass media, the networks and life itself. This mutant entity as a political subject glimpses by means of an eternal and compulsive evolution the idealisation of freedom that every one of us deserves and thus, we are compelled to provoke social struggles in order to achieve this purpose.

“Draw and sound, process sound more and draw a picture, listen to the sound atmosphere and continue drawing. Watch as the water falls, wet and make a sensory video: this is not making art, but just look to the sun’s glare manifesting on the water and I no longer need to write. I work and I express poetically in various media, including drawing, writing, and especially the electronic – new media for graphic, audiovisual and sound work. Playing with children and young people we hack toy guns and turn them into sound instruments, making glitches and modulations in sound and light. I appreciate the nature of the digital error –audible or visual, and innocently induce basic code editors, de-contextualizing electronics, overcoming their logical functionality, and revealing their natural spirit. I am looking for contextual demonstrations, almost synesthetic epiphanies; electronic inventive craftsmanship, create an Electro-Kaleidoscope and spark frenzy colours on the eyes. I build oscillator frequencies: browsing the harmonics, generated by the collision of bouncing frequencies in a space. Discover an environment its mythology and its spiritual ancestor; sensing electromagnetism and make the site a sonorous verse.”
