Elisabeth Lusche
Trumpet player & creator
Elisabeth Lusche is a trumpet player specializing in the performance of new music. Originally from Auburn, Alabama, Elisabeth now lives and studies in The Hague, the Netherlands.
In 2019, Elisabeth received her masters degree from the Royal Conservatory The Hague. As a student of Marco Blaauw in the Masterspecialisatie aus LICHT program, Elisabeth became an expert in the music of Karlheinz Stockhausen and starred in the “aus LICHT” production of the Dutch National Opera. This program was a collaboration between the Royal Conservatory The Hague and the Stockhausen Foundation.
In 2017, Elisabeth completed a Bachelor of Music in Trumpet Performance at Northwestern University's Bienen School of Music where she studied under Robert Sullivan and Channing Philbrick. Elisabeth is also a proud alumna of the Chosen Vale International Trumpet Seminar and the Darmstadt Summer Course.
Elisabeth’s trumpet quintet Trumpets aus LICHT is an active ensemble in The Hague and abroad, premiering several works every year. In the summer of 2018, the ensemble performed as featured artists in the Klangspuren Festival for its Pilgerwanderung. The Trumpets aus LICHT’s most recent performances included playing Karlheinz Stockhausen’s “RUF," “DONNERSTAGs ABSCHIED,” and “TRUMPETENT” at the 2019 Stockhausen Courses Kürten.

Elisabeth recently performed in the Grachtenfestival 2019 with her ensemble SamoDivas. The group were the selected pitch winners for the festival’s “Schatten van Vrouwen” Themaprijs and Oorkaanprijs. Elisabeth is also an active improvisor and has recorded and played with several improvisation ensembles - including The Hague-based group Oktopus Connection Redutch, which has played venues such as Steim and Studio LOOS, and the Free Fall Improvisers Orchestra, which played at Rewire 2019.
Elisabeth has made community engagement a large part of her career - including playing with street orchestras Ricciotti Ensemble and Nevis Ensemble and working with the People’s Music School in Chicago, IL, USA. Elisabeth’s research project, “Embodiment and Empowerment,” centers around the themes of diversity and performance, and she has presented her findings in several lecture series, including at the 2019 Stockhausen Courses Kürten.
Elisabeth has performed in masterclasses with Hakan Hardenberger, Tom Stevens, Edward Carrol, Clement Saunier, Jeroen Berwaerts, Gabriele Cassone, Markus Stockhausen, Stephen Burns, Stephanie Richards, Peter Evans, Christopher Martin, David Krauss, Tom Hooten, and Craig Morris. She has worked with numerous composers, including Rebecca Saunders, Liza Lim, Milica Djorjevic, Rozalie Hirs, and Eric Ewazen.
