spectrums
BY CHRISTOPHER COLLINGS, ELISABETH LUSCHE, AND GERMAN GREINER
Spectrums is a project by trumpet duo Christopher Collings and Elisabeth Lusche and artist/software engineer German Greiner which integrates live-coding, visual art, poetry, and trumpet performance - focusing primarily on contemporary trumpet performance praxis and the use of computer generated images as an active and interactive musical interpreter and improvisor.
Through this performance, the trio explores the spectrums of synchronicity/discord and order/chaos, while simultaneously addressing the false dichotomies of human/technology and rationality/emotion through structures of interaction and coded sound-triggered visual media. Spectrums is comprised of compositional sketches by Collings which contain both free and guided improvisations as well as fully composed sections created to research individual aspects of visual and sonic relationships. The code by Greiner and poetry by Lusche in turn examines notions of communication, agency, and power in a technological age, while packing a visual punch that engages audiences in the sonic architecture constructed by Collings.
