New Residency by Lucie Nezri
We welcome Lucie Nezri to the LOOS community for a residency research on indeterminacy. Her research at Studio LOOS will be in the continuation of her current research project at the Royal Conservatoire — i.e. focused on the notion of indeterminacy.
Lucie Nezri (FR/ NL) is a composer and performer studying at the Institute of Sonology of the Royal Conservatoire in the Hague.
Nezri is drawn towards abstraction and simplicity. Her work bridges different contexts and disciplines pertaining to music, tuning theory, music cognition, computer science theory, and, at times, choreography. Her current research looks at the notion of indeterminacy in computer/algorithmic music. Through the use of stochastics and probability, Nezri investigates the influence of computing machines on the way one thinks and experiences the event of sound.
At LOOS Lucie will:
compose and record some of the electro-accoustic pieces belonging to the cycle of algorithmic pieces that I am currently writing for solo instrument and computer.
curate a series of concerts dedicated to algorithmic/computer-based music, implying electronics and/or acoustic instruments. It would mean to form a small ensemble with a few students from the KC interested in performing some existing contemporary music pieces. Ideally, the concerts would be introduced with short lectures about these pieces given by their composers or the performers.
develop some movement-based choreographies. Choreography remains an area of interest in herwork. As she continue to write some scores for body-movements, she would very much like to see some of them perform at studio LOOS.
