Day 1 at Loos

IMG_0004.JPG

I find it hard to believe that these crt monitors were present in almost any broadcast studio. The bulkiness, the square housing, the sound of nails on glass.

At the first contact, one of them proudly greets me - as if I approached it with not enough respect - by smashing my thumb against the table. After inspecting all of them, I choose three: two JVC TM-A170G and one JVC TM-A210G. A quick google and all you see is retro gamers going mad nostalgic about the crisp lines and further increasing the price of the monitors.

These three were mainly chosen because of their input connections: reliable BNC, straightforward composite video. Other monitors had different video standards, such as component or SDI and bizarre connectors that looked like RS252. All these options are great, but either too much of an overkill or incompatible with the cctv cameras I have.

After measuring sizes and playing around with the composition of these basic geometric forms, I come to a crossroads: how to arrange the tvs in a way that the message is clearly transmitted and it looks aesthetically pleasing? Furthermore, how does it translate to the space allocated for the installation at the gallery?

Next step, I will visit the space where transmit<>dissolve will take place, Quartair - to take some measures and visualize the final piece.
