Day 2 at Loos.
Today I was at the gallery space - Quartair -, an ex-squat turned artist studios, where InTake will happen from 6-7th November. Focused in interdisciplinary media, this year’s theme expands the concept of interactivity: the audience as substance for exhibited pieces.
Now, when there, I was warmly met with resident artists who promptly borrowed me a measuring tape. transmit<>dissolve will take space at a high-ceiling room, at the back of the gallery, completely by itself, low-lit, calmy televising what it sees.
A few steps here and there, measure, walk, turn around, visualize - synthesize the piece out of thin air, staring at the white walls. The room is 4.5x4.3m, but not all the space can be used due to an emergency exit, which takes around 1sqm out of the room.
Well, back to Loos.
I line up the CRTs. The smaller ones measure 39cm each and the bulkier one, 48cm. All together, with a breather in between them, the whole installation should measure about 2~2.5m in length. This meets the conditions of the space, but the metal shelves from Loos that I intended to use will not fit (One shelf per TV, each occupying 90cm takes almost all the room and blocks the emergency exit).
In the next few weeks I will have to plan a structure to hold the TVs for the installation. It has to be at least 1~1.5m height and strong enough to support the bulkiness, in addition to being very affordable. For now I can think of ready made workshop shelves, or as a last resort, DIY metal/wood stands. As I step out of Loos for the day, the more minimal, the better, I think - the screens should appear as they are floating in mid air, 25 frames per second.
