Johan van Kreij - untitled
Lost, orphaned, amputated, discarded, abolished and otherwise forgotten or obsolete sounds are arranged an rearranged so that they may become music. A music in which the instigator is navigated by the structures that occur, and is therefor in service of it, rather than being its master. Or better, while performing I try just to listen and, listen.
Johan van Kreij (jvkr.nl) performs a variety of sound generating environments of his own making.

RecPlay is a collective that focuses on audio visual improvisation
and performance initiated in late 2001 on the Royal Academy of Visual Arts in The Hague by the Interfaculty ArtScience / Image And Sound leaded by Robert Pravda and visuals by Kasper van der Host. They’d use every object around them to construct an instrument. The line-up of the group changes constantly over the years. By time, the process of working has developed in many ways, from Duchamp ready-made metallic instruments, all the way to the latest models of laptop computers. Nevertheless, the spirit behind the creative process is truly experimental in its constant quest for ambient landscapes and harsh sonic battlefields.
